Legislation

Farms in Nova Scotia fall under various types of legislation to include acts, regulations, and guidelines to protect the health and safety of the workers working on the farms. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Legislation primarily covers the health and safety of workers but First Aid Regulations, WHMIS Regulations, Violence in the Workplace Regulations and the Smoke Free Places Act & Regulations are also a part of the OHS legislation that protects the workers.

Acts are written laws. Regulations are a form of the law that defines the application of the act and how it is enforced. Guidelines are documents that are used to help interpret the act or regulations.

Legislation compliance is an import part in becoming a sustainable farm.
