Canadian Agricultural Safety Week is a public awareness campaign presented by the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) that takes place every year on the third week of March. In 2024, Canadian Agricultural Safety Week will run from March 10-16th. The tagline this year is “Safety is our Heritage”, under the three-year campaign of “Your farm, your family, your success”.
Celebrate with Farm Safety NS
With the theme Safety is our Heritage in mind, Farm Safety Nova Scotia will be providing training opportunities as well as fun and promotional activities for all ages throughout the week.
Kids Activity Books: These activity books promote hazard awareness on the farm to children through colour pages, word searches, and more. We will be promoting them throughout the week, and you can download and print yours from www.farmsafetyns.ca, or request us to mail you copies.
Safety Tips: We asked farmers from around Nova Scotia to share their best safety tips. Keep an eye on our social media channels throughout the week as we share those. @FarmSafetyNS
Youtube video: Kids love Youtube! We will be providing a short, kid-focused instructional video on recognizing common safety signs found around the farm, and what to do when you come across them.
Hazard Awareness Family Workshop: This in-person hazard awareness workshop is available to youth aged ten to fifteen and their families. We will be teaching participants about recognizing common hazards on the farm, assessing the risk, and working through steps as a family to control the hazard. Group discussions are encouraged as we educate youth on recognizing common hazards in the workplace. Register here: farmsafetyns.ca/event/hazard-awareness-workshop/
Hiring Young Workers Webinar: Partnering with the Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration, we will be holding a webinar on considerations when welcoming young workers to your farm presented by an Occupational Health and Safety Advisor. Ag Safe Ribbons
You can show your support for Canadian Agricultural Safety Week by displaying an Ag Safe Ribbon. Ag Safe Ribbons raise awareness of farm safety and are a great way to declare that you are a farm safety champion. Physical ribbons are available free of charge through Farm Safety Nova Scotia or the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association and can be picked up at the NSFA office or mailed to you. You can also download a virtual ribbon for your social media accounts by visiting the CASA website at casa-acsa.ca.
