Progressive Agriculture Safety Days

Helping youth learn about farm safety is an important part of life on or around farms.

Farm Safety Nova Scotia presents two Progressive Agriculture Safety Days each year, at which youth ages 7 through 13 learn by participating in hands-on safety-related activities.

Volunteers from the community act as presenters on topics such as Tractor Safety, Chemical Safety, Mental Health, Hiking and Forest Safety, First Aid, Fire Safety, Sun Safety, ATV Safety and many more!

The Progressive Agriculture Safety Foundation supports these days by sharing prepared lesson plans, and providing t-shirts, empty take-home bags and insurance coverage. The NS Department of Agriculture, 4-H Nova Scotia, the NS Federation of Agriculture, farms and local agriculture businesses provide people to act as instructors, group leaders and volunteers for the days.

Safety days are generally scheduled to take place on an in-service day, providing participants with a full day of fun learning, including snacks and lunch. Recent safety days have been held in Windsor and Antigonish, with plans for upcoming days in Berwick, Truro area and the South Shore.
