“RECOGNIZING AND RESPONDING TO PEOPLE AT RISK”; LEARNING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF SUICIDE

Intended Audience: Farmer, ag workers, ag business employees, Safety professionals, educators, and students.

Farming is one of the most stressful professions available today. Fluctuating markets, unpredictable weather and demanding societal wants are causing increasing Mental Health concerns. Building a Sustainable Farmer webinar topic “Recognizing and Responding to People at Risk”; Learning to Address the Issue of Suicide, is designed for people in the agricultural community. The webinar will look at the current influences and challenges facing farmers today and the impact on their mental health and well being. Participants will gain skills to both recognize and respond to farmers who may be showing signs of distress and be in need of support. The issue of suicide in the farming community will also be addressed and participants will be given basic tools to help connect farmers with appropriate resources.

Learning objectives

  1. Participants will learn the current influences and challenges facing farmers today and the impact on their mental health and well being.
  2. Participants will learn and gain skills to both recognize and respond to farmers who may be showing signs of distress and be in need of support.
  3. Participants will learn what mental health resources are available for someone who may be in need of support.
