The Occupational Health and Safety Act applies to all workplaces in Nova Scotia, including farming operations. The purpose of the Act is to improve workplace health and safety in Nova Scotia. The Occupational Health and Safety Act has been in effect since 1996.

A Farmers Guide to the Occupational Health and Safety Act” Booklet was designed as an introduction and overview of the Occupational Health and Safety Act highlighting some of the main points applicable to farming operations.

This guide is by no means a substitute for the Act and farmers are encouraged to review the Act in full to ensure compliance.
